Hydro Duck Appeal
At the beginning of 2014 we launched our appeal to raise money to refurbish a vital facility that is crucial to the learning of our pupils with severe and complex needs and for others within the local community.
We have now completed phase 1 of our appeal and we are continuing to fund raise for the refurbishment of the changing facilities, showers etc. Our mascot Hydro Duck is still looking far and wide for much-needed funding and travelling the world. He has been to London, Norway, Wisconsin, Las Vegas, Stockholm, The Bahamas and Egypt to name a few.
At The Dales School we provide specialist co-education to pupils aged 2 to 19 from across the region. The hydrotherapy pool is a vital facility crucial to the learning of our pupils with severe and complex needs bringing much needed therapy, as it is much warmer than a traditional swimming pool.
The original pool was opened by Olympic swimmer Adrian Moorhouse and footballer Bryan Robson. It replaced a facility lost with the closure of St John of God’s Hospital at Scorton.
Claire Turner Senior Physiotherapist, from Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, who works with the pupils, says: “It is an incredible facility for physiotherapy, especially for people who have limited mobility and is a way of experiencing freedom of movement and relaxation.”
Fundraisers hope to appeal to young and old, individuals, groups and corporate charity sources. For more information on the appeal and how you can help please phone school on 01609 772932.
