Special education needs (SEN) and disability information

Context of the school:

The school is situated in rural Morton-on-Swale, a small village on the A684 approximately 3 miles from Northallerton. We have a very large catchment area of roughly 1015 square miles with a small total population of 138,300. The school is one of four North Yorkshire (NY) Authority 2-19 Severe Learning Difficulties special schools with generic sixth form provision.

Attainment on entry is significantly below age related expectations for all pupils throughout the whole school. A large proportion of pupils have significant medical needs and for some, the combination of their needs, mean their progress is measured and calculated in the context of their needs recognising small yet significant steps of progress. Our year 12 students are joined by an intake from a nearby school for children and young people with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), as they enter the Sixth Form.

The assessment system is widely used and over 300 copies have been sold.  We continue to work in partnership with EQUALS as this system undergoes development.
