Food and Drink

Food

  • Children up to and including year 2 are entitled to a free piece of fruit each day.
  • Parents are asked to send in healthy snacks from home.
  • Water or milk will be offered to drink; milk can be purchased through the School Milk Scheme, this scheme is available to all of our pupils and you can register your child. School milk is free for under-5s, and for over-5s. Each child that registers with Cool Milk will receive a 189ml portion of semi-skimmed milk every day, delivered fresh and chilled to the classroom. Their school milk will not only provide them with essential nutrients, but as it is re-hydrating and energy boosting it also bridges the gap between breakfast and lunch to help children stay focused.

Healthy Schools

A Healthy School promotes the health and well-being of it’s pupils and staff through a hostile approach to the curriculum, recognising and meeting individual pupil needs.

School Dinners

New Food Standards came into force from January 2015.  They are intended to help children develop healthy eating habits and ensure they get the energy and nutrition they need across the whole day.  Variety is key to a healthy diet.  Food needs to look and taste delicious.

Children and young people in North Yorkshire can be confident that they are enjoying the best of British when they have a school lunch.  All food suppliers are based in the Yorkshire region, with the majority being family owned businesses.  Only fresh meat and poultry is used in school lunches most of which is sourced from within the county boundary.

Half of all fruit and vegetables are sources from the north of England and all the eggs are free range.  They are sourced in the Yorkshire region and have received a “Good Egg Award” from the animal welfare charity Compassion in World Farming.

A variety of fair trade products are used including sugar, coffee and cocoa.  Gluten free items are also stocked including sausages, pasta, flour and bread and organic pasta is now used.

All food served in our school is freshly prepared every day.
